The Curious Case Of ‘The Indian Degree’

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not  speak out— Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.                                                                                     -Martin Niemöller Isn’t it a bit telling of people how they generally speak condescendingly about India until unfavourable circum...

The Boy-child Is Still Lucky

Pretty women tend to marry wealthier men. Pretty women tend to give birth to girls. Wealthy parents will offer the best for their daughters in order for them to excel in the world. These ‘successful’ daughters will tend to chase the few eligible men their ilk. Counterparts their age-bracket are mostly struggling to find their identity, if not dead or in prison,or wasting away in monotonous, unrewarding toil. Due to their debauchery, these wealthy men once broke the hearts of too many bedazzled as well as adventurous girls. For the likes of Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem, Kanye West-not profiling the music industry here-one can't help but wonder how they raise their own daughters, going by their misogynist rants on records. Not even the famed 'corruption-slayer' Kagame can make a dent, was he to vie for his third term in Kenya. We simply worship money too much! We gladly invite erstwhile ordinary people, now flaunting questionable nauseating opulence to Harambees and other forms of charity without batting an eye. We glorify corruption and subsequently reward it with leadership. A mwananchi like you and I can hardly raise Ksh.10-20 million for a formidable campaign for a National Assembly seat against an incumbent who has been pilfering funds for the same. That’s why the M.P will remain in office for the foreseeable future, and the successor also fuata nyayo.Until people wake up (read our children), this might be the story for a long ti...
